Construction of Humanitarian Assistance Centre will begin in September in Panama


The Panamanian government and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) presented the draft Regional Logistics Center for Humanitarian Assistance, whose civil works will start in September, said an official source.

Humanitarian Hub in Latin America, with an investment of 24 million dollars, will be at the airport in Panama Pacific, as was the US airbase Howard, close to Interoceanic Canal.

The same should be operating in about 16 months, the Panamanian Foreign Ministry reported that the project forward with the UNOPS. This is the first humanitarian hub in the region to incorporate emergency operations of the various actors in one integrated modern logistics facility, which will operate 24 hours a day.

The presentation ceremony was held the initiative in the framework of the visit to Panama of Grete Faremo, Executive Director of UNOPS, which provides technical advice on the design and construction of the project.
